You may want to edit the images displayed at the top of your pages, known as the slideshow. You can update either the default inner pages slides, or the images for a specific page, or section of your site. This can only be done by a user with Administrator permissions.
NB: In some cases slideshows that are displayed on the homepage are edited under WEBSITE > Custom Data > Homepage Slideshow. If this option is not available follow the steps below, otherwise follow the article about Editing a Custom Homepage Slideshow.
Uploading Slideshow Images
To edit your default slideshow, which applies across your website:
- Access the File Manager from the Home tab on the admin toolbar
- Upload images to the images>slideshow
-
You can drag & drop an image from your computer into the folder in your File Manager OR click on the 'cloud' button and then browse to where the file is located on your computer.
To edit slideshows for specific pages or sections:
- Firstly, navigate to the page you want to change the slideshow for
-
You should see a tooltip indicating the folder path you need to add images to.
TIP: It will often show the whole path, but sometimes be minimised so you will see a circle containing the letter 'i'. If it is minimised, hover over the icon, or touch, if on a mobile device.
NB If you don't see the tooltip, contact our Support Team, and they can add one for you.
- Once you have obtained the folder path from the tool tip, open the File Manager from the Home Tab on the Admin bar.
-
If the folder path indicated does not exist, you can create it by right-clicking on the slideshow folder and selecting Create
- To add an image to the slideshow drag & drop an image from your computer into the folder in your File Manager OR click on the 'cloud' button and then browse to where the file is located on your computer.
- Any images that you upload into the numbered folder will display on the corresponding page and, any sub-pages will inherit the same images, unless you also create a specific folder for those pages too.
NB There is usually a 5MB limit when uploading to the file manger. Whilst we do perform image compression on the pictures you upload, it's important that you consider the size of the image that you are uploading as it will have an effect on the speed of your page loading, and the amount of data used to access the page. There are many tools available which will allow you to resize image files before you upload them.
TIP When selecting images, it's a good idea to think about which ones are suitable. Remember, the area they have to fit into is very long and narrow. So pick photos that, when cropped to fit, will still look great! For example, portrait photos may be difficult to crop, and images when your subject is very zoomed in may look out of place.
Cropping the slideshow images
- You can crop an image by clicking the crop icon which appears on the small toolbar when you hover over the image.
- You can then use the dashed box in the cropping tool to select he area you would like to display.
The dashed outline will turn green when you have selected a good enough quality section of the image. (Please be aware that this will edit the image in file manager permanently and cannot be reverted. You may want to make sure you have a backup of the image before cropping)
- Once you have selected the area, click on the Crop tab at the top.
- You can delete an image by hovering your mouse over an image and selecting the delete icon. It will ask you if you're sure, and if you are, click yes. (you may wish to download the image first before deletion just to be sure you still have it on your computer)
- Any changes you make will update the slides immediately, but it may take a little while before they appear, due to page caching.
