Links within your menu can be useful if you need to link to external websites, and can also be used to link to documents or pages on your website.
TIP: for internal pages, you may find it more useful to set a second location for a page, rather than linking.
Menu Link to External Website
- Navigate to the area of the website where you would like to create an external menu link.
- Select Link from the Create tab. The Link Properties window will appear.
- Enter a title for your link in the Link Text field. This is the text which will appear in your menu.
- In the Open Link In the drop-down, select how you would like your link to open:
- New Window - Opens the link in a new tab on your browser.
- Embedded within the current page - Embedding website content for inner pages. This will not function if the link is added to the top-level menu.
- Open in the current window - Opens the link in your current tab, moving the user away from the website containing the link.
- Click Create to add the external website link.
Note: For external website links, it's recommended that New Window is set as the target. This will ensure you are not encouraging your visitors to move away from your website.
Menu Link to Document
- Navigate to the area of the website where you would like to create an internal menu link.
- Select Link from the Create tab. The Link Properties window will appear.
- Enter a title for your link in the Link Text field. This is the text which will appear in your menu.
- Click the Browse Server button to open your website's File Manager.
Menu Link to Internal Page
- Navigate to the area of the website where you would like to create an internal menu link.
- Select Link from the Create tab. The Link Properties window will appear.
- Enter a title for your link in the Link Text field. This is the text which will appear in your menu.
- Click the Internal Link button to open a Sitemap View of pages throughout your website
- Left click on a page to select it. The Sitemap View will close and you will return to Link Properties.
- In the Open Link In the drop-down, select how you would like your link to open:
- New Window - Opens the link in a new tab on your browser.
- Embedded within the current page - Embedding website content for inner pages. This will not function if the link is added to the top-level menu.
