You may want to edit the images displayed at the top of your homepage, known as the slideshow. Sometimes this is set up as a custom element and, if your slideshow has the ability to add text, such as your school values, a call to action button or school values, you will be able to set these options which will not be available when updating the slideshow on your other pages.
Accessing your Custom Data
- Go to the Website Tab> Custom Data on your admin bar. Choose Homepage Slideshow from the drop-down list.
NB If this option does not exist, you can Edit Slideshow Images in File Manager
- You will be presented with a list of existing slides
Adding or editing a new slide
- To add a new slide, select Add New item from the top of the list or, to edit an existing slide, click the name of the slide in the list.
- Enter the required details into the custom form. This may include a title, description or link; depending on the customisations that have been added to your site.
- To update the image, first click Select Image. This will open the File Manager.
- Click the Upload File option, or drag and drop images from your computer, into the File Manager. Make sure you add images for the homepage slideshow to Images> Slideshow> Home
NB There is usually a 5MB limit when uploading to the file manger. Whilst we do perform image compression on the pictures you upload, it's important that you consider the size of the image that you are uploading as it will have an effect on the speed of your page loading, and the amount of data used to access the page. There are many tools available which will allow you to resize image files before you upload them.
-
TIP When selecting images, it's a good idea to think about which ones are suitable. Remember, the area they have to fit into is very long and narrow, so pick photos that, when cropped to fit, will still look great! For example, portrait photos may be difficult to crop, and images when your subject is very zoomed in may look out of place.
- Once you have uploaded the image, hover over it and select the cropping tool.
- You can crop an image by clicking the crop icon which appears on the small toolbar when you hover over the image.
- You can then use the dashed box in the cropping tool to select he area you would like to display.
The dashed outline will turn green when you have selected a good enough quality section of the image. (Please be aware that this will edit the image in file manager permanently and cannot be reverted. You may want to make sure you have a backup of the image before cropping)
- Once you have selected the area, click on the Crop tab at the top.
- Once you have cropped the image, click the image in the file manager window to select and you will be returned to the Custom Data form.
- Click Update at the bottom of the form to save your changes.
